Membership Guidelines
The purpose of the Columbia Exchange Circle (CEC) is to foster strong community in Columbia. As respect is key in achieving this, it is important that all transactions and interactions are kept polite, honest and mature. Keep in mind the Golden Rule.
No illicit exchanges are allowed. No sex or drugs (rock and roll is OK).
The CEC is not a means of tax evasion: similar to Craigslist, most transactions don't need to be taxed. However, there are a few conditions where taxes might be applicable. In these situations, the members involved in the transaction are responsible for resolving any tax liabilities:
- Professional services, especially when liscensed.
- Economic activity that results in the equivalent of $1000 in annual income.
- Transactions that have been subject to taxes in the past.
- Business sales of goods and services.
Don't be frontin'. That is, be realistic with your offers and sincere in your requests (e.g.: offering skilled labor you are not familiar with is unsafe and unfair). In order to ensure the quality and integrity of the system, all services and comments are transparent and viewable by all users, and transactions can be reviewed.
Be yourself. Please use your real name and a real picture of yourself on your profile. This will ensure honest and safe community exchanges and encourage community interaction.
Active participation is encouraged. Members who have excessive commitment or excessive marbles are urged to strive for a more neutral balance. Abuse of the system may result in removal.
As a community-run system, members are encouraged to help develop and maintain the CEC. If you have ideas or comments please share them with the community in the forums. Our goal is to create a positive environment for community building and exchange. Be part of it!
